A Message From Our Founder

 

Hi, my name is Nirvanna and I am the founder of Titli!

At a young age I fell in love with fashion and saw it as an outlet for self-expression. But as a South Asian girI growing up in the United States, I was often discouraged by the lack of diversity showcased by popular clothing brands. I desperately wanted to see my style and needs reflected in the industry. To see faces and bodies that looked like mine and the people in my life. This desire led me to teach myself how to sew, a tradition amongst the women in my family. I begged my parents for a sewing machine for my 12th birthday and started creating my own pieces. My most prized possession was a Singer sewing machine and the local fabric store soon became my favorite place. As I got older my tastes began to change. That is one thing I absolutely love about fashion, it is ever-evolving!

Titli was launched in 2021 as a passion project. I wanted to create the kind of brand that was missing during my childhood. My goal has always been for women to feel empowered to own their beauty. True beauty starts from within. Society often tries to tell us what is beautiful and if you do not fit into that very narrow box it can have a devastating effect on your confidence. Somewhere along the way I lost my sense of identity and became what other's expected me, it started influencing the way I dressed. Once I found my self again and began embracing my true beauty I started having fun again with clothes and fell in love all over again with fashion! I was inspired to do so by the first woman who  taught me about beauty and how to feel beautiful, my mom. I have hand-selected pieces for Titli to do for others what my mom did for me. We are the team behind all that you see here. We daydream about when we can finally grow our team to include more incredible women whose heart and mind aligns with our mission for Titli.

I am frequently asked about the name "Titli". In tribute to my beautiful culture, my mom and I chose it. Titli is the Hindi word for butterfly. Butterflies are universally known to be a symbol of beauty, strength, transformation, hope, and beginnings. This is a new chapter for me, something I've dreamed of doing since I was little. By day I am an educator and at night I work endless hours to expand this vision of mine. This is only the start, there is so much I have planned for this brand and I feel so GRATEFUL that you all are here on this journey with us.
